If outdoor sports are your passion, the possibilities are absolutely limitless as this valley is truly an outdoor enthusiast dream location.
A large, talented community of artists and artisans gives color and texture to Creston’s culture. The Lower Kootenay Band of the Ktunaxa nation carries forth its ancient cultural
heritage and a language so distinct that it is unique to any other in the world. The Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area,a Ramsar designated wetland of international importance, covers 17,000 acres, boasts 32 kilometers (20 mi) of walking trails and is home to over 300 species of birds, 57 species of mammals and 29 species of fish, reptiles, and amphibians.
Creston (population 5,246) is a country town with a sizeable backyard. Go south into the rural communities of Erickson, Canyon, and Lister and discover the agricultural heartland of the valley. Here, the landscape is marked by cherry orchards, dairy farms, and more recently, vineyards. Head north to find the rural community of Wynndel, where you will find berry farms and mixed agricultural ventures. Continue to local Duck lake for summertime bass fishing or winter season ice skating. Head west and stumble upon West Creston which overlooks the internationally renowned Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area.
And, with an annual average rainfall of a mere 49 centimeters and above-freezing mid-winter temperatures, nature itself extends year-round hospitality. There are so many ways to enjoy this place.
